Vinicius Jr has enjoyed a splendid season with Real Madrid as he guided them to Champions League and La Liga glory. However, a disappointing Copa America campaign meant that his candidacy for Ballon d’Or has been threated by Spain and Manchester City defensive midfielder Rodri.
Despite Rodri being named man of the tournament at Euro 2024, Real Madrid legend and former teammate of Vinicius Jr was having none of Rodri’s candidacy and has backed Vinicus Jr to be named the best men’s player of the year.
Real Madrid legend raves about Vinicius Jr
Karim Benzema when talking to media simply maintained that Vinicius Jr was the best player in the world currently. He made it clear that despite what happened in Copa America and Euros, Vinicius Jr was the most decisive and important player for his side.
The biggest reason why Karim Benzema believes Vinicius Jr should win Ballon d’Or is because he is the kind of player that can win games on his own for the team.
“Vinicius can win you a match alone, of course with the help of his teammates, but he is very good when Real Madrid needs him and that is why I think he deserves the Ballon d’Or. He is always there, so he is the best candidate for me,” said Karim Benzema.

Karim Benzema and Vinicius Jr formed a deadly attack partnership for Real Madrid as they combined to lead Real Madrid to win their 14th Champions League and 35th La Liga back in 2022.
While, Vinicius Jr has been the favourite to win Ballon d’Or, Rodri’s Euro 2024 campaign has him giving the Brazilian a very strong competition. Additionally, Jude Bellingham for his Euros run with England and Kylian Mbappe are also considered to be in the race.

Vinicius Jr scored 24 goals and provided 11 assists in 39 appearances last season. Despite being injured for three seasons, Vinicius Jr stepped up when it mattered most for Real Madrid and scored in the Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund to take them to the 15th Champions League crown.
