KANPUR: A 19-year-old intermediate student who was sitting on the railway track and talking on his mobile phone, died after being hit by a train. The incident which took place on Thursday came to light on Saturday. GRP reached the spot, initiated investigation, and informed the family members.
Kshitij Tripathi, alias Ansh (19), originally a resident of Dibiyapur, Auraiya, was pursuing class XII at GIC Bhaunti. For the last three years, he had been living in the house of his uncle, Satish Chandra, in Panki Padav.
His uncle said that he used to go for night duty and after having dinner, his nephew Kshitij used to go to his close friend Jatin, who lived near the house, and study.
On Thursday night, Kshitij had left, saying he was going to meet friends. When it started getting late, a call was made, but the mobile was switched off. When the family called his friend Jatin and asked about Kshitij, he told them that Kshitij had not come. This made them worried. They dialled the phone several times, but it was found to be switched off. They started searching but could not find any information.
The search was resumed on Saturday morning, and some people said that an accident had happened by train the previous night.
They contacted GRP Central, who reached the post-mortem house and informed them about the identification of the young man.
The family members reached the spot and identified Kshitij. His friends, who reached the post-mortem house, told that Kshitij was in the habit of chatting while sitting on the railway track. On the day he met a tragic end, he apparently indulged in the same act, and lost his life after being hit by a train.
It is alleged that after the accident, the phone was also stolen from the spot. GRP Central said that the body of the victim has been sent for postmortem. “We are waiting for the autopsy report to ascertain the exact cause of the victim’s death,” the police said.
