27 candidates withdraw nomination for 2nd phase of J&K polls | India News – Times of India

Jammu: On the last day of withdrawal of nominations Monday for the second phase of forthcoming assembly elections in J&K, 27 candidates withdrew their candidature across six districts leaving 239 in the final poll fray.
Office of the chief electoral officer said a total of 309 candidates had filed nomination for 26 assembly constituencies till the last date on Sept 5.Of these, 266 candidates were found valid during scrutiny on Sept 6.
Polling in the 26 assembly constituencies will be held on Sept 25, in the second phase of J&K assembly elections.
An official communique stated, Budgam district witnessed the maximum number of withdrawal of nominations at nine, followed by six in Srinagar, five each in Rajouri and Poonch, and two in Reasi district.
As per the official statement, 13 candidates remain in the final electoral fray in Srinagar, 10 in Khanyar, 16 in Habbakadal, 10 in Lal Chowk, eight in Channapora, 10 in Zadibal, 13 in Eidgah, and 13 in Central Shalteng.
