Watch: RJD, CPI (ML) protest outside Bihar assembly over reservation, demand Adani's arrest

NEW DELHI: Rashtriya Janta Dal leaders Rabri Devi, Tejashvi Yadav and Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) leaders staged a protest outside Bihar assembly demanding 65% reservation for the underprivileged castes and arrest of Gautam Adani after he was indicted by the US.
Among other issues, the opposition also demanded the withdrawal of smart meters with Rabri Devi saying, “Smart meters should be removed, there is a very big corruption going on under this. The public has been cheated by the state government…”

The CPI (ML) leaders held posters attacking the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) which is in alliance with CM Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal United (JDU), over “destroying the basic structure of constitution.”
Congress has been persistent in its criticism of the saffron party accusing it of not respecting Constitution and opposing the caste survey.
“The PM is constantly attacking this Constitution book; last time, he said that it’s red-coloured. But this book is not just something which came after Independence. It contains thoughts and philosophies of Lord Buddha, Shivaji Maharaj, Mahatma Gandhi, and Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar. And yet, this book is being insulted by them (BJP),” Rahul Gandhi had said at a rally in Maharashtra earlier this month.

The protests come a day after CPI(ML) voiced their dissent against the Waqf Bill demanding its roll back.
“All types of public properties used by Muslims like madrasas, kabristan and khankah belong to Waqf. The proposed bill is an assault on the Muslim community by the Centre,” CPI (ML) leader Mehboob Alam alleged.
Alam said that, as the Union government depends on the support of Nitish’s JDU, the CM had an ethical obligation to prevent the introduction of the Waqf Bill in Parliament.
The Waqf (Amendment) Bill was presented in the Lok Sabha on August 8 and later sent to a joint parliamentary committee after a vigorous debate.
