Tragic Revenge Shooting: 8-Year-Old Girl Killed in Meerut | Meerut News – Times of India

MEERUT: An eight-year-old girl was shot dead in UP by nine men — five of them unidentified — in a “revenge attack” following an argument they had with her brother in the local market. Police said the incident took place at Kaland village under Sardhana in Meerut district on Sunday evening, when Aafiya, who was standing on the stairs at home, was hit by a bullet after the accused, looking for her brother, Mohd Sahil, barged in and fired indiscriminately.
The girl was rushed to a community health centre in Sardhana where doctors found that a bullet had pierced through her chest and declared her “brought dead”.
Meerut SP (crime) Awanish Kumar told TOI on Monday: “The accused and the girl’s brother had a verbal spat around a year ago, in which an FIR was lodged. Later, in that case, a chargesheet was filed and both sides took a step back. However, an argument ensued on Sunday evening after Mohd Sahil and the other side again saw each other. Reason behind the latest tiff is not known and efforts are on to arrest the accused persons who killed the child.”
Meerut SSP Dr Vipin Tada added, “The girl’s father has filed a case against nine villagers and an FIR was registered under BNS section 103 (murder) against them. All of them seem to be locals. Three teams have been formed and an adequate police force has been deployed in the village as a preventive measure.”
The girl’s father, Mohd Tahseen, who owns a dairy shop in the village, said that it all started when Sahil (in the early-20s) went to the market to bring milk and got embroiled in a verbal spat with four accused — Mashruf, Kaif, Sohrab and Kamran (only first names available). Other villagers somehow pacified them and Sahil returned home.
Tahseen added: “An hour later, at least nine people forcibly entered our house and started abusing us. Then, all of a sudden, they opened fire. My son and I quickly took the stairs and moved towards the terrace without realising that my daughter was left behind. Aafiya was hit by a bullet. She collapsed and the attackers fled.”
