Bengaluru executive suicide: Atul Subhash's wife Nikita Singhania was living as paying guest in Gurgaon

BENGALURU: Five days after 34-year-old Atul Subhash, automobile firm executive, died by suicide, Bengaluru police have arrested his wife, her mother and younger brother.
All three were brought to Bengaluru, produced before the magistrate at his residence and were remanded in 14-day judicial custody early Sunday.
The arrested were identified as Atul’s wife Nikita Singhania, 29; her mother Nisha Singhania; and her younger brother Anurag Singhania, 27. Another accused, Sushil Singhania, mentioned in the FIR, is aged above 70 years, and his role in Atul’s death is being verified for further action, police said.

According to deputy commissioner of police (Whitefield) Shivakumar Gunare’s press statement, a team of officials detained Nikita from Gurugram in Haryana on Saturday morning. Another team detained Nisha and Anurag from Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh the same day.
Nikita was detained by police near Hongkong Bazar Road around 9am. She was staying in a paying guest accommodation in Phase 2, Rail Vihar, Gurugram, Haryana. Nisha and Anurag were picked up from near Hotel Rameshwaram Inn in Jhunsi, Allahabad district, Uttar Pradesh, around the same time.
According to police, the trio was brought to Bengaluru by flight. They reached the city around 10.30pm. They were subjected to a medical test and produced at the magistrate’s residence around 5.30am Sunday. They were remanded in 14 days in judicial custody and taken to Central Prison, Parappana Agrahara.

During interrogation, Nikita claimed she didn’t harass her husband; instead, she was harassed by him. She claimed she was staying away from him for almost three years. If she harassed him for money, why would she stay away from him, she was quoted as saying. “We will investigate the case thoroughly and file a chargesheet in court if the allegations made by Atul are proved,” the officer added.
Marathahalli police have registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 108 (3) and (5) – (abetment to suicide) — based on the complaint filed by Atul’s younger brother, Bikas Kumar, on December 9. As the case became sensational, the police team spread across three states, including UP and Delhi.
According to police probing Atul’s case, he left a four-page handwritten death note. About 44 pages were typed in a system. The total pages of the death note found by the police are around 48 pages. The video is around 90 minutes.
A senior police officer said the rumours about the Google Drive link of Atul’s suicide missing are false. “Our team investigating the case, along with the Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO) team, seized all devices and the handwritten death note from Atul’s flat in Manjunatha Layout in Munekollala. The documents have been sealed and produced before the court,” he added.
“There are also rumours about Atul’s search history on internet. We agree has he searched for a few things, but we are not yet sure what exactly he has searched for and for how many days. We have got permission from the court to open the seizures made. We have to send them to the forensic sciences laboratory (FSL) and get a report; only then can we confirm it,” a senior officer said.
