Parliament scuffle: 'Rahul can never push anyone,' Priyanka Gandhi slams BJP's allegations of violence

NEW DELHI: Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday strongly condemned Union home minister Amit Shah‘s remarks about Dr BR Ambedkar, saying that such “insults” would not be tolerated by the people of India. She also clarified that Congress leader and her brother Rahul Gandhi did not push anyone during Parliament protest on Thursday, which took an ugly turn.
Speaking to the media, she accused the BJP-led central government of habouring insincere sentiments toward the architect of Constitution, while fearing the opposition’s growing unity.
“They know that their true sentiments for Ambedkar ji have come out,” said Priyanka Gandhi. “Now, they are scared of the Opposition because we are raising this issue. National interest is related to this matter. Our Constitution has been given by Ambedkar ji, the people of this country, and our freedom struggle. Such insult to him will not be tolerated by India.”

She also attacked the government for avoiding discussions on the Adani controversy, accusing them of fear and evasion. “This government is scared. This government is scared to have a discussion on the Adani matter. It is scared of having any discussion,” she said.
Addressing a complaint filed by BJP MPs against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over an alleged scuffle in Parliament, Priyanka dismissed the accusations as “false and baseless,” attributing them to the BJP’s desperation.
“This is the government’s desperation. They are so desperate that they are lodging false FIRs. Rahul ji can never push anyone. I am his sister, I know him. He can never do such a thing. Frankly, the country knows this too. The country is watching how desperate they are that they are lodging baseless FIRs. These are all distractions,” she said.
The complaint came after a heated incident in Parliament on Thursday, where a scuffle between MPs from the NDA and the INDIA bloc reportedly left two BJP MPs injured. BJP MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi alleged that he was hurt after Rahul Gandhi pushed another MP, who then fell on him.
“I was standing near the stairs when Rahul Gandhi came and pushed a fellow MP. That MP fell on me, causing me to fall as well,” claimed Sarangi. He added that the incident left him with a head injury, for which he was taken away in an ambulance.
In response, BJP MPs, led by Anurag Thakur, lodged a complaint with Delhi Police against Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of “assault and incitement.” Meanwhile, Congress MPs filed their own complaint with Parliament Street Police, alleging that BJP MPs had misbehaved with Congress president Kharge during the altercation.
Rahul Gandhi denied the allegations, saying that he was pushed and threatened by BJP MPs while attempting to enter Parliament. He also claimed that Mallikarjun Kharge was similarly manhandled.
“This might be on your camera. I was trying to go inside through the Parliament entrance, but BJP MPs were trying to stop me, push me, and threaten me. This has happened. Yes, this has happened (to Mallikarjun Kharge as well),” he said.
