Chennai: Mother slits sons’ throats, attempts suicide; 18-month-old dies | – Times of India

The 18-month-old died in the hospital, while the older child and the mother remain in critical condition.

CHENNAI: In an attempt to kill herself and her children, a woman slit the throats of her sons, aged 18 months and four-and-a-half years, and then slit her own throat due to a family feud in Pullapuram, near Kilpauk, on Saturday.
The 18-month-old child, R Punith Kumar, was declared dead at Kilpauk Medical College hospital, while the other child, R Lakshan Kumar and the mother, R Divya, 31, were admitted to ICU for treatment.
Police said Divya and Ramkumar, who worked at a private courier firm, married on Sep 12, 2019. Police said the couple often quarrelled with each other. Two months ago, Divya left her husband and stayed at her parents’ house, while Ramkumar stayed at his parents’ house in Perungalathur.
On Saturday, Divya spoke to her husband, and they had another round of arguments. Later, she locked her kids and herseld in a room. Her aunt, Padmavathi, knocked at the door repeatedly and was shocked when Divya opened the door with a cut on her throat.
Padmavathi informed the neighbours, and Divya and her two children were taken to the hospital. Police registered a case and further investigations are on.
