NEW DELHI: BJP MP Anurag Thakur, joined by Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva and other party leaders, on Monday released a “Charge Sheet” or “Aarop Patra” against the Arvind Kejriwal government. The event featured banners and slogans such as “10 Saal Delhi Behaal” and “Delhi ka AQI hua 500 paar” and “Yamuna mein hai pollution ki bahar, thank you Kejriwal Sarkar.”
Speaking to news agency ANI, Anurag Thakur said, “AAP government polluted Yamuna River so badly, it has become so smelly, foamy and poisonous. I remember, during a press conference in 2022, Kejriwal had said that before the next election, he, along with people would take a dip in the Yamuna River, that is before the 2025 election.
“Ten years have passed, has the Yamuna been cleaned? Delhi’s AQI went above 500, the Yamuna is heavily polluted, thank you, Kejriwal government. In return, the people of Delhi were left without even basic access to water. The Prime Minister’s Jal Jeevan Mission ensured water supply to everyone, but Kejriwal did not allow it to be implemented here,” the former Union minister said.
“We need to save Delhi from Kejriwal’s corruption and pollution. I appeal to Kejriwal to take a dip in the Yamuna because if it is not cleaned by 2025, we will hold him accountable,” he added.
Thakur further alleged that there have been multiple scams in the Kejriwal government, “the water board scam, the classroom scam, the Mohalla Clinic scam, the Waqf Board scam, the liquor scam, DTC scandals, and so on, adding that, “we will work to save Delhi. Kejriwal is a friend of the corrupt and a criminal of Delhi. We will not forgive him but will clean up the mess he has made.”
AAP supremo Kejriwal firmly responded to the release of “Aarop Patra” stating that, “BJP has no agenda to contest elections. They should tell the people of Delhi what they have done for Delhi in 5 years. AAP has done a lot of work for Delhiites in terms of electricity, water, women’s travel, roads and many other things.”
“What work have these people done…the law and order situation in Delhi has collapsed…they have not done any work. Now that they have come for elections, they are issuing charge sheet against me…they do not have a CM face,” he told news agency ANI.
Earlier on Sunday, Arvind Kejriwal announced the launch of registrations for two new schemes, the ‘Mukhya Mantri Mahila Samman Yojana‘ and the ‘Sanjeevani Yojana,’ ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections in February.
Addressing a press conference, Kejriwal had said, “You don’t have to queue anywhere. We will come to you for the registration process. Teams have been formed across Delhi to assist women with registration and to provide them with cards.”
“Our team will go door to door to register beneficiaries for the Sanjeevani Yojana and the Mahila Samman Yojana. It is mandatory to have a Delhi voter ID card for registration. You can check on the website whether your vote has been cancelled,” he added.
Meanwhile, BJP leader Shehzad Poonawalla criticised the initiatives, labeling them as “election promises” designed to secure votes ahead of the polls. He questioned the AAP government’s track record on key issues such as pollution control, cleaning the Yamuna, and improving healthcare and education.
“They were in power for 10 years but could not make Delhi pollution-free. They could not clean Yamuna by 2025. They used to talk about good hospitals and schools but could not do it. Now they are making new promises. What were they doing for 10 years?… These are just election promises made to the public in view of the elections,” Poonawalla added.
