The wrestler made news on Wednesday when she attempted to use her accreditation card to help her sister into the athletes village; as a result, the authorities called them.
After the French authorities brought the incident to their attention, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) became enraged and chose to fly Panghal and her support staff back home, leaving the nation disgraced.
Despite claiming she didn’t “intend to do anything wrong,” the bronze medallist from the world championship is likely to face consequences for breaking the regulations within the athletes village.
Panghal swiftly left the Indira Gandhi International Airport while sporting a team India shirt and declined to discuss the incident with the reporters who were waiting, as per PTI.
Panghal was eliminated from the competition on Wednesday morning after losing to Yetgil Zeynep of Turkey in her opening 53 kg freestyle round, 0-10.
After the defeat, Panghal-who said that she was ill-supposedly gave her younger sister Nisha her accreditation card and instructed her to pick up her stuff at the Games Village.
But she was stopped by the guards in the village. At the end of Wednesday night, Panghal and her sister arrived at the village police station.
“I was not well and there was confusion. All of this happened due to confusion,” Panghal had said in a video message to PTI.
Worse, Panghal’s backup team, which included instructors Bhagat Singh and Vikas, was also embroiled in another incident with the police and a taxi driver in Paris.
They allegedly misbehaved with the cab driver, refused to pay the fare, and fled inside without any other incident. Later, the taxi driver informed the police about the event.
