Champions Trophy 2025: David Warner, over the years has been an loyal servant of Australian cricket and has played his part to perfection. Their opener across all formats, Warner bowed out of international cricket after Australia’s shocking exit from the T20 World Cup. Touted as one of the favourites to win the World T20 for the second time, Australia faced a shocking defeat at the hands of Afghanistan and an additional loss against India saw them crash out of the ICC event.
George Bailey’s Jaw-Dropping Comment On David Warner
Even after Australia’s shocking exit from the recent edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, Warner maintained dead silence over his retirement. Though Cricket Australia and his long time opening partner Usman Khawaja confirmed that ‘The Bull’ was retired, Warner took some time before announcing that his time in international cricket had come to a close. Usman Khawaja also went the distance and said that he would’ve loved to see Warner signing off with a T20 World Cup win.
Days after Australia’s exit, Warner penned down an emotional post regarding his retirement but it also increased selection headaches for the Aussie selectors. In a very subtle way, Warner hinted towards his wish of playing the Champions Trophy if deemed worthy. Australia currently do not have someone who can replace Warner or replicate his role across all the three formats. This might have prompted to Warner to fancy his chances, but Australian Chief Selector George Bailey has now come out and spoken about Warner.

‘Our understanding is that David is retired, and (he) should be commended on what has been an incredible career across all three formats. Certainly, our planning is that he won’t be there in Pakistan. You never know when Bull’s joking…think he’s just stirring the pot a bit. He’s had a wonderful career, can’t celebrate it enough, and think as time goes by, his legacy of what he has done for Australia and we reflect back on that, the legend of a player is only going to continue to grow.’, said Bailey.
