If you’ve played Grand Theft Auto 5, you’ve definitely met Robert Bogue’s character. He played Steve Haines, the shady FIB (that’s the game’s version of the FBI) agent who pushes Michael, Trevor, and Franklin into doing dirty work. But Bogue isn’t new to Rockstar Games—he’s been part of their world for years:
He’s basically a Rockstar veteran.
Important Point
Bogue auditioned for over 60 different characters in GTA 6.
Some were big roles, some were tiny. He didn’t care—he just wanted to be part of the game.
Here’s how it went down, step by step:
Bogue didn’t hide his feelings. In a DM conversation with X (formerly Twitter) user Burak, he said:
“I’m a little bit down on Rockstar right now… I so badly wanted to work on GTA 6. I must’ve auditioned for over 60 characters… I didn’t get any of them, and they never called me about any of them. I was so disappointed… I feel like someone who’s in love with a girl and then she just dumped me.”
He later added:
“At the end of the day, the actor’s life is about rejection. It’s just, sometimes you need a victory once in a while.”
Bogue’s experience isn’t the first time Rockstar’s actor relationships have made headlines.
| Actor | Role | What Happened |
|---|---|---|
| Michael Hollick | Niko Bellic (GTA 4) | Paid only $100,000 for 15 months of work. No bonuses despite GTA 4’s massive success. Believed to be why Niko never appeared in GTA 5. |
| Ray Liotta | Tommy Vercetti (Vice City) | Called the pay “subpar” compared to film work. |
| Ned Luke | Michael (GTA 5) | Did a small role in Red Dead Redemption 2, but claims Rockstar cut his lines to avoid distracting players. |
| Roger Clark | Arthur Morgan (RDR2) | Nothing but praise for Rockstar. |
| Shawn Fonteno | Franklin (GTA 5) | Says Rockstar has been “kind,” even without residuals. Reprised role in GTA Online updates. |
Important Point
Rockstar does bring back actors sometimes (Ned Luke, Shawn Fonteno), but it’s inconsistent. Some get callbacks; others get ghosted.
Even if Bogue had been cast, his character Steve Haines dies in one of GTA 5’s endings—the “Deathwish” (Option C) ending, which most fans and Rockstar itself treat as canon.
So narratively, Haines is already gone. But Bogue wasn’t asking to replay Haines—he wanted any role, big or small.
No. He’s just venting frustration. He still works as an actor—this was about one specific casting process.
We don’t know for sure. It could be:
In the canon ending (Option C / Deathwish), yes—Franklin kills him. Rockstar has treated this ending as the “real” one in GTA Online references.
Almost never. Most are paid a flat session fee. GTA 5 has made over $8 billion, but the main cast didn’t get a cut beyond their original contracts.
He didn’t rule it out, but said he’s “a little down on them right now.” In this industry, bridges burn fast—but sometimes they rebuild.
