Delegation of central govt employees to raise assured pension with PM Modi – Times of India

NEW DELHI: The staff representatives of Joint Consultative Machinery (JCM) will demand an assured pension of 50% of the last salary under the National Pension System when they meet PM Narendra Modi on Saturday. This will be in addition to their demand for periodic inflation adjustment, a minimum payout for those who leave govt service before completing 20 years as well as protection for family pension.
The move, which has been under consideration for over a year, will benefit all central govt employees who joined service from 2004 and comes amid Congress reversing NPS in several states.
JCM president M Raghavaiah also demanded additional pension for those who live beyond 80 years.
JCM is a statutory platform for dialogue between the govt and its employees to resolve disputes amicably. It has members from more than a dozen govt organisations representing around 36 lakh Central govt employees.
“The PM wants to meet the committee members. There is no specific agenda. But we will raise the demand for applicability of OPS provisions to all central govt employees,” Raghavaiah told TOI.
He added that if the PM agrees to listen to other issues, they will raise the demand of lifting the ban on creation of new posts to meet growing requirements such as in the railways.
JCM secretary Shiv Gopal Mishra said the staff body wants an amicable solution to the pension issue. “There have been four rounds of discussions with the top govt officials where we have submitted our demands. The PM has taken note of them and is meeting us. We are expecting a way out that protects the interest of lakhs of pensioners,” he added.
