Yuvraj Singh Set to Replace Ricky Ponting at DC in IPL 2025 – REPORT

Former India cricketer Yuvraj Singh is set to make a comeback to the Indian Premier League. Reports in Sportstar suggest that Yuvraj will replace head coach Ricky Ponting in the Capitals franchise. While nothing can be confirmed at the moment, Yuvraj in Capitals would certainly boost their chances because of the knowhow the former India cricketer has of the league and the conditions. If Yuvraj is got onboard at the Capitals, it will be his first-ever stint in a coaching role. He has in the past been mentors to Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma. After a seven-year association, Ponting parted ways with the Capitals and since they have been on the hunt. The Capitals failed to qualify for the playoffs in any of the last three seasons. They finished sixth in 2024 and are one of the few franchises who are yet to win the IPL title.

Ponting Show at DC

The former Australian captain joined DC in 2018, when the team was called Delhi Daredevils. Although they finished bottom of the table in his first year as head coach, they made the playoffs in three straight years – 2019 to 2021 – which included a run to the final in 2020, before failing to make the final four in the last three seasons.

Why Not Ganguly?

When Ponting parted ways in July, there were speculations that assistant coach Sourav Ganguly may be elevated to the position of the head coach – but that does not seem to be the case now.

Expectations From Yuvraj

In case, he is finalised – he would be expected to show results straightaway. With Yuvraj there, one could see a strategic overhaul at the Capitals.
