Halo’s August Update: Free Armor Styles & Video Settings Revamp
Halo: Campaign Evolved – New Update Brings Visual Settings, Fixes & Free Armor!
Hey there, Spartan! The team behind Halo: Campaign Evolved just dropped a fresh update based on your feedback. Whether you’re a day-one player or just joined the fight, this patch makes the game look better, play smoother, and even gives you some shiny new armor — for free!
Let’s break it all down in simple terms.
What’s New in This Update?
The developers listened to the community and packed this update with quality-of-life improvements — that’s fancy talk for “small changes that make the game way more enjoyable.”
Here’s what you’ll notice right away:
New Video Settings (Finally!)
You can now toggle two visual effects on or off in the settings menu:
- Chromatic Aberration – This is that slight color fringing (red/blue edges) around objects, like an old VHS tape. Some people like the retro look; others find it distracting. Now you choose!
- Film Grain – Adds a subtle “grainy” texture to the image, like old movie film. Again, totally optional now.
Important: These are visual preferences only — they don’t affect gameplay or performance. Turn them off if you want a cleaner, sharper image.
Keyboard & Mouse Fixes (Huge for PC & Console Players!)
- Custom key bindings now SAVE properly. No more re-setting your controls every time you launch the game.
- Mouse & keyboard feels snappier on consoles. Firing weapons responds faster — aim and shoot with confidence.
Gameplay & AI Improvements
- Active Camo works more reliably. Stay cloaked longer and more consistently — sneak like a pro.
- Jackal shields fixed! Shooting through the weapon port (the little hole in their shield) now consistently staggers them. No more bullets magically bouncing off.
- Marines & Flood Marines can now fire Assault Rifles with the Magnified Skull on. A weird bug, now squashed.
- Sgt. Johnson behaves better in “Boarding Action” (Mission 1 of Operation: METEORITE). No more getting stuck — mission progresses smoothly.
Under the Hood
- Stability & performance improvements — fewer crashes, smoother frame rates.

Free Armor Styles — Just for You!
To say “thanks for the feedback,” 343 Industries is giving every player a brand-new Armor Style:
Recompilation Armor Style
“Explore the unknowable with the Recompilation Armor Style, the perfect avatar for heroes returning from the age of analog.”
It looks retro-futuristic — think analog tech meets Master Chief vibes. Very cool.

FAQ
Q: Do I need to own the Premium Edition to get the free armor?
A: Nope! All three Armor Styles (Recompilation, Sandstone Ancient, Damascus Prototype) are free for every player who owns Halo: Campaign Evolved.
Q: What is Chromatic Aberration? Is it bad?
A: It’s a visual effect that splits colors slightly at edges (like red/blue outlines). Not “bad” — just a style choice. Turn it off if you want a sharper image.
Q: My key bindings kept resetting before — is that really fixed?
A: Yes! The update specifically says: “Mouse and keyboard control bindings will now save without reverting.” Test it and see.
Q: Where do I redeem the armor codes?
A: On Halo Waypoint (halowaypoint.com). Click the links in this article — they take you straight to the redemption page.
Q: Are there more updates coming?
A: The devs said: “And we’re just getting started!” So yes — more fixes, features, and maybe even more free stuff ahead.
Updated. Suited up. Ready to drop.
See you on the ring, Spartan.
