After a meeting of five Sikh head priests, Gyani Raghbir Singh, the Jathedar of the Akal Takht, the highest Sikh temporal authority announced that it was unanimously decided that, during his tenure as deputy chief minister and SAD president, Badal made decision that negatively impacted the party and harmed Sikh interests.
The Jathedar stated that until Sukhbir Singh Badal appears before the Akal Takht in the presence of the Guru Granth Sahib to seek an apology for his mistakes, he will remain declared a “tankhaiya.”
The Jathedar also announced that Sikh ministers who were part of the Akali cabinet from 2007 to 2017 must personally appear before the Akal Takht within 15 days to submit their written explanations. This decision came following a meeting at the Akal Takht secretariat.
Badal has requested “unconditional forgiveness” for “all mistakes” made while the SAD was in power in Punjab.
In his earlier letter, Badal described himself as a “humble servant” of the Guru, devoted to the Guru Granth Sahib and the Akal Takht. The former Punjab deputy chief minister submitted his explanation on July 24.
