MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “We have seen these reports. When a democracy adopts different yardsticks to measure or implement the rule of law and freedom of expression, it only exposes its own double standard. We expect Canada to take action against anti-India elements who have repeatedly threatened Indian leaders, institutions, airlines and diplomats by violence.”
“We would like to see strong action, same level of action on the threats posed to us.” Jaiswal remarked.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) recently announced charges against two men from Alberta for allegedly uttering threats against Trudeau and other Canadian leaders. According to RCMP reports, one individual posted threats on May 10 via the social media platform X, threatening to kill Trudeau, while another allegedly made threats on YouTube on June 7 against Trudeau, Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland, and New Democratic Party Leader Jagmeet Singh.
India’s statement comes after Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun has released a video threatening Canadian MP Chandra Arya and his “Hindu-Canadian friends”, demanding that they “go back to India”. In the video, Pannun said, “The likes of Arya and his supporters. You have no place in Canada because you are working against the Canadian values. You are working against the Charter of Rights and you are promoting the interest of your masters, India.”
“You all must abandon your citizenship and move back to your motherland, India. While you and your supporters, Chandra Arya, are promoting violence against pro-Khalistan Sikhs. We, the pro-Khalistani Sikhs have proved over decades that we are loyal to Canada,” he added.
In a staunch response, Canadian MP Chandra Arya retorted that Canada is their land and that they have enriched the multicultural fabric of the country. Sharing a post on X, the Canadian MP wrote, “We Hindus have come to our wonderful country Canada from all parts of the world. From every country in South Asia, many countries in Africa and Caribbean, and many other parts of the world, we have come here and Canada is our land.”
“We have made and continue to make an immense positive and productive contribution to the socio-economic development of Canada. With our long history of Hindu culture and heritage, we have enriched the multicultural fabric of Canada. Our land is being polluted by Khalistani extremists abusing our freedoms guaranteed by our Canadian Charter of Rights,” Chandra further said.
