Biryani row: Administration moves boy to new school, to waive Rs 37k in fees | India News – Times of India

BIJNOR: A 7-year-old boy, expelled for bringing non-vegetarian biryani in his tiffin to Hilton Public School in Amroha, will be transferred to a new school along with his two siblings. The administration is facilitating the transfer after their mother decided to move her children to another institution. The education department will cover the cost of their enrolment, and Hilton Public School has agreed to waive the outstanding fees, amounting to Rs 37,000.
An administrative probe into the incident on Tuesday had cleared the principal of any wrongdoing, stating that the controversial video was “edited”. However, the school management has removed the principal pending an internal investigation, which is ongoing.
The district inspector of schools (DIOS) for Amroha, Vishnu Pratap Singh, said govt is assisting the family with the transfer process. “We have discussed the matter with both the school management and the boy’s mother. Both parties have agreed to the transfer, and the education department is coordinating with other schools to enrol the children. Once the transfer certificate is issued, further proceedings will begin,” he said.
The controversy began on Thursday when the boy was expelled for allegedly bringing non-vegetarian biryani to school in his lunchbox. A heated exchange between the boy’s mother and the school principal, captured on video, was widely shared on social media, sparking public outrage and communal tensions. In the video, the mother accused the school of discrimination based on her son’s food preferences.
