AGRA: After a tiff with his older brothers, a 39-year-old man in Hathras district approached police and complained about his two siblings and mother, alleging that they had killed his father 30 years ago and buried him in the courtyard of their house
On the DM’s orders, Sadar SDM Neeraj Sharma, along with police, reached the complainant Punjabi Singh‘s house and started digging. They reached about 8-feet when to the shock of those present at the site, skeletal remains — possibly of his dad — emerged.
Singh, youngest among four siblings, claimed that back on July 1, 2024, he had an altercation with his brothers, Pradeep Kumar and Mukesh Kumar (in their late 50s), over money. And they had cautioned him then that “they would send him up to their father (Buddha Singh) just like in 1994”.
That remark reopened old wounds and made Singh delve deep into his troubled childhood. He has now claimed that, at 9 years, he had witnessed his mother, Urmila Devi (in her 70s), along with his brothers and a “wealthy man” Rajveer Singh, murder his dad.
In those days, Rajveer used to frequently visit his mother, leading to quarrels among his parents. On the night of the murder, the complainant and his third brother were sent to sleep at a neighbour’s house. Unable to get sleep there, he returned home only to witness how his father was strangled to death. He told the cops that his mother and brothers “buried his father’s body in their courtyard and threatened him to remain silent all these years”.
On Thursday, Hathras DM Rahul Pandey ordered an excavation at the site for the “body to be exhumed”. Police are also probing the role of some of the relatives.
SHO of Musran, Vijay Singh, said on Friday: “The remains were sent to a postmortem house and its sample sent for DNA test. Further action will be taken once the findings are in.”
