TIRUPATI: Andhra Pradesh director general of police (DGP) Dwaraka Tirumala Rao said on Tuesday that the probe into the alleged adulteration of ghee used in making laddu prasadams in Tirumala has been temporarily suspended by the special investigation team (SIT).
Addressing a press conference in Tirumala, the DGP said that based on a complaint filed at the Tirupati east police station by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams, a SIT was constituted based on the significance of the issue and an IG rank officer was appointed as its chief to conduct a thorough investigation into the case.
“We have been asked to suspend probe till Oct 3, which is also the next date of hearing in the apex court. We will see the outcome of the proceedings and take a call. We are not in a hurry and are committed to conducting a detailed investigation into the case,” the DGP added.
“Our SIT team visited TTD’s marketing godown and labs and inspected the manner of the procurement of raw materials and testing mechanisms involved. However, as the Supreme court directed the SIT to stall the investigation till Oct 3, the probe has been temporarily suspended,” the DGP said.
Probe depends on SC proceeding
He said the counsel appearing for state govt in this case also advised to temporarily suspend the SIT investigation.
The progress of SIT investigation will depend on the outcome of the proceedings in the supreme court. It was about a week ago that state govt constituted a SIT to investigate into the Tirupati laddu-ghee ‘adulteration’ case.
While the nine-member SIT headed by Guntur IG Sarvashresth Tripathi launched its probe on Saturday, the investigation could last just four days.
