Baba Siddique, a former Maharashtra minister and NCP leader, was shot dead near Colgate Ground in Mumbai. Two of the accused have been arrested, while one remains at large. Siddique had recently joined NCP after resigning from Congress in February 2024.

Baba Siddique, former Maharashtra minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader, was shot dead on Saturday evening outside his son’s office near Colgate Ground in Mumbai’s Nirmal Nagar. “Two to three rounds were fired. Probe is underway as teams have rushed to the area,” a source in the police said. While two of the alleged assailants have been arrested, another accused is on the run and efforts are on to trace him, police stated.As per the police, the arrested accused have been identified as Gurmail Baljit Singh (23), resident of Haryana, and Dharmaraj Rajesh Kashyap (19), native of Uttar Pradesh.
Siddique was a prominent political figure and served as an MLA for three consecutive terms. He recently joined NCP after resigning from Congress in February, 2024.

Siddique shared a heartfelt tribute to legendary industrialist and Tata Group chairman Ratan Tata via an Instagram post. Ratan Tana, 86, passed away on 9 October after a brief hospitalization at a Mumbai hospital. Sharing a photo of Tata, Siddique wrote “End of an Era 💐”

Siddique’s final post on X (formerly Twitter) was a Dussehra greeting. He wrote “Happy #Dussehra Everyone!!! May this Dussehra bring you all happiness, peace and prosperity ✨”.

Baba Siddique (66) was ambushed by three individuals outside his son, MLA Zeeshan Siddique‘s office. He was rushed to Lilavati Hospital in Bandra, where doctors declared him dead. Following the incident, a forensic team arrived at the scene to collect evidence, and police are reviewing nearby CCTV footage for further leads, the official added.
The attackers reportedly fired multiple rounds from a 9.9mm pistol, which was later recovered by the police. Multiple Mumbai police teams have been formed to investigate the case, with some dispatched outside Maharashtra to apprehend the third suspect, who remains at large.
