NEW DELHI: Kolkata medics on Friday announced a series of demonstrations across the state after expressing dissatisfaction over the pace of investigation in the RG Kar rape-and-murder case.
The doctors questioned the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) whether the role of arrested suspects, including former (RG Kar hospital) principal Sandip Ghosh had been entirely investigated. “Has the role of other arrested persons including former (RG Kar hospital) principal Sandip Ghosh been entirely investigated?” forum spokesperson Debashis Halder asked.
“Why such a routine kind of investigation was held? We wish to know what steps the central agency has undertaken against higher authorities in the hospital and whether the sleuths talked to higher-ups in the health department,” Halder added.
Halder announced that they would organize a rally in Kolkata on November 9, starting from College Square to Esplanade, alongside members of civil society organizations. He said that similar rallies would take place in various parts of West Bengal.
The effort to restore the protests received criticism from the ruling TMC with Kalyan Bandyopadhyay calling it a political move. “The movement seems to be hijacked by CPI(M) as the junior doctors have no concrete issue any more,” he said.
The junior doctors had called off their ‘fast-onto-death’ strike last month after Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee assured to work on their demands of safety and security along with justice for the raped and murdered medic.
