Soren counters BJP, says there won't be any UCC in Jharkhand
Jharkhand CM and JMM chief Hemant Soren

RANCHI: Jharkhand‘s governing JMM and CM Hemant Soren hit back Sunday at Union home minister Amit Shah’s promises of a crackdown on Bangladeshi infiltrators, a CBI probe into a paper leak and Uniform Civil Code (UCC) if BJP and its allies won the Nov 13 and 20 assembly polls.
“They (BJP) are talking about Bangladeshi infiltrators in Jharkhand. I want to ask them why did the Centre shelter Sheikh Hasina, the ousted Bangladeshi PM? Why is electricity being produced in Jharkhand supplied to Bangladesh?” Hemant asked, alluding to an Adani plant in Jharkhand’s Godda that sells power to Bangladesh.
The CM said border security was the Centre’s responsibility and states had no role. “The infiltrators are sneaking in through the states where there are BJP govts or that of its allies. Why are they not being stopped there?” Hemant asked.
On Shah’s civil code pledge, Hemant said “there will not be any UCC”.
“Instead, there will just be CNT and SPT Acts,” Hemand said, referring to two laws meant to protect land rights of tribals.
JMM also slammed Shah over NRC in Assam and UCC in Uttarakhand – both BJP-governed states – and said these measures did not yield the results the saffron party had promised.
Hemant questioned Shah’s statements related to the leak of the state’s combined graduate level (CGL) exams earlier this year. “They (BJP) claimed they will initiate a CBI probe. We have probed it and identified the culprits. They tried to sabotage the exam but could not. They will be sent to jail after the election is over,” the CM said.
JMM said Gandhinagar in BJP-governed Gujarat was the “epicentre” of NEET paper leak of this year, while UP had failed to prevent leaks of 17 recruitment exams in the past seven years of the saffron party’s reign.
The party debunked Shah’s claims that the Jharkhand govt had failed to provide promised 5 lakh jobs in five years. “PM Narendra Modi had promised two crore jobs every year. Going by that, they should have provided 22 crore jobs by now. Yet, more than 20 crore people lost their jobs over the past decade,” JMM general secretary Supriyo Bhattacharya said.
