The grand old party’s spokesperson Jairam Ramesh was responding to Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Sagarika Ghose’s question as to why does the NTA website provide little information about itself.
The TMC MP in a post on X wrote, “I have written to @EduMinOfIndia @dpradhanbjp on: why does the website of the National Testing Agency ( NTA which conducts 17 major examinations including the #NEET ) give so little information about itself? Who are all the board members ? Who are the officials ? Where are NTA’s annual reports? To win public trust for future exams NTA must provide more information about itself on its website.”
Responding to this, Jairam Ramesh said, “The only job of NTA appears to be to outsource. Its Chairman has a very dubious record as Chairman of the Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission.”
What is ‘dubious’ about NTA chairperson Pradeep Kumar Joshi’s record
Pradeep Kumar Joshi, who was appointed as the chairman of state Public Service Commissions (PSC) under the ruling BJP governments- first in Madhya Pradesh, and then in Chhattisgarh, was the saffron party leader Murli Manohar Joshi’s kin.
“When he was MPPSC chairman, he was appointed chief campaigner of RSS. Intelligence report of Madhya Pradesh government says that he was close to Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Murli Manohar Joshi,” said RTI activist Ajay Dubey.
“His appointment was politically influenced as we saw many irregularities in MPPSC exams during his tenure,” he added.
Further, in order to make Chhattisgarh public service exams transparent, a commission was set up under the chairmanship of Joshi earlier this year, drawing flack from the opposition.
He was also appointed as the chairperson of the committee set up by Centre to look into the irregularities into NEET-UG paper leak case. The opposition criticised the move as he was the one in charge of conducting the test in the first place.
