Why are noodles banned in Korean Air’s economy menu from August 15? – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Korean Air has decided to stop offering instant noodles to economy class passengers on long flights to prevent burn incidents. However, the noodles will still be available to passengers in prestige and first class cabins.
Korean Air said that the recent change is a part of a proactive measure aimed at preventing burn accidents.
This action has been taken three months after severe turbulence on a Singapore Airlines flight that killed a 73-year-old passenger and injured dozens of others.
Spicy noodle to be removed
The airline stated that the spicy noodle dish, Shin Ramyun, which requires boiling water to prepare, will be removed from the snack menu from August 15.
The popular snack will be now replaced with pizza, sandwiches, hot pockets, corn dogs, etc., the airline said.
Singapore Airlines burn incident
In May 2024, a 73-year-old man was killed during a severe turbulence incident on a Singapore Airlines flight, which also resulted in injuries to several other passengers.
Previous action by Korean Air
Korean Air, ranked as the 11th best airline in the world for 2024, announced last month that it would end long and medium-haul cabin services 20 minutes earlier to ensure the safety of passengers and crew.
“To enhance passenger satisfaction and diversify snack options, a self-service snack bar is also available on long-haul flights. We are committed to ensuring passenger safety and will select snacks on each route based on customer preferences,” Korean Air’s press release said.
