NEW DELHI: Bangladesh were 107 for 3 in their first innings when bad light stopped play on the opening day of the second Test between India and Bangladesh.
Bangladesh captain Shanto’s dismissal came after Rishabh Pant advised R Ashwin on a bowling strategy.
Pant suggested to Ashwin, “Ash bhai halka sa thoda aagae daalna padega,” during his spell against Shanto. Ashwin followed this advice and delivered a well-pitched ball.Shanto missed the turn, resulting in the ball hitting his pad, and the umpire declared him out.

With this wicket R Ashwin set the record for taking most wickets by an Indian bowler in Asia.
Bangladesh’s cricket team scored 33 runs and lost the wicket of their captain, Najmul Hossain Shanto, who made 31 runs. The partnership was broken after 51 runs. This occurred in the nine overs played after lunch before the game was halted due to bad light.
Mushfiqur Rahim and Mominul Haque were at the crease when the day was called off, with scores of 6 and 40, respectively.
In a home test match in India, the team chose to bowl first, taking into account overcast weather conditions. This decision marked a change since 2015.
Bangladesh began their innings slowly, facing disciplined bowling from Jasprit Bumrah in his initial spell.
India pace bowler Akash Deep (2-14) struck twice in the first session after play was delayed by an hour because of a wet outfield.
Opener Zakir Hassan struggled to make runs, facing 23 deliveries without success. He was eventually caught at gully by Jaiswal after a 24-ball duck in the ninth over, off a delivery from Deep.
Deep continued his effective bowling, securing another wicket four overs later by trapping Shadman Islam lbw for 24 runs.
This cautious start from Bangladesh highlighted the challenge posed by India’s disciplined bowling attack.
