DEHRADUN: Tehri Garhwal is all set to host Acro Fest 2024, a four-day extravaganza organized by the Uttarakhand Tourism Department in collaboration with the District Administration Tehri. Scheduled from December 19 to 22, 2024, the festival will take place at Koti Colony in Tehri. The event promises a spectacular lineup of activities, including paragliding, the International Acro Championship, and the National SIV Competition, offering participants a thrilling experience along with the chance to win exciting prizes.
Adding to the festivity, events such as a Photography Competition cum Photo Exhibition, Destination Tehri Social Media Influencers Meet, and the launch of the Destination Tehri 2025 Calendar are being organized in association with the Uttarakhand Tourism Department, District Administration, and The Times of India, showcasing the region’s beauty and potential as a premier tourist destination.
Participants from 10 countries, including India, Turkey, the United States of America, the Czech Republic, Spain, Russia, Switzerland, France, Iran, Hungary, and Albania, will grace the festival. This includes 30 foreign Acro pilots, 102 Indian SIV pilots, 25 tandem pilots, and 5 BASE jumpers, all of whom have registered to participate in the Acro World Championship and Aero Show 2024 to be held in Tehri.
Tourism Secretary and CEO of UTDB, Sachin Kurve, stated, “The tourism department is committed to promoting Uttarakhand as a premier tourist destination, blending natural beauty, adventure, and cultural heritage. The Tehri Acro Festival not only promises an exhilarating experience for participants but also serves as a platform to showcase paragliding to the international community, firmly placing Tehri on the global paragliding map.”
He further shared that last year, the department organized a five-day International Acro Festival at Tehri Lake, in which about 150 paragliders, including 54 participants from 26 countries, participated. “In view of the immense success of the Acro Festival-2023, this year the Acro World Championship and Aero Show 2024 is being organized in Tehri on an even bigger scale. Along with the World Acro Competition, the National SIV Championship will also be held for Indian pilots. To make this event more attractive and to increase public participation, free tandem paragliding rides will be organized for visitors and local people during the event. Interested individuals can register themselves free of cost at the venue. For the entertainment of visitors, demonstrations of paragliding aero shows and BASE jumping will also be organized,” he added.
District Magistrate, Tehri, Mayur Dixit, IAS, remarked, “The Acro Fest 2024 is not just an adventure festival; it is an opportunity to showcase Tehri’s potential as a global adventure destination. The administration is fully committed to ensuring a safe, enjoyable, and memorable experience for all participants and visitors.”
