NEW DELHI: A group of five individuals allegedly defrauded a retired deputy superintendent of police (SP) of Rs 25 lakh, promising him a high-ranking government position, according to a police report filed on Friday.
Jagdish Singh Patani, the victim, filed the report at Bareilly Kotwali police station. He alleges that the group, led by an acquaintance named Shivendra Pratap Singh, claimed to have political connections and guaranteed him a chairman or vice-chairman position in a government commission.
Patani claims he gave the group Rs 5 lakh in cash and transferred Rs 20 lakh to three different bank accounts. After three months with no progress, he demanded his money back. The group allegedly responded with threats and aggressive behavior.
“A case has been registered against Shivendra Pratap Singh, Diwakar Garg, Acharya Jayaprakash from Juna Akhara, Preeti Garg, and one unidentified person for cheating, criminal intimidation, and extortion,” said D.K. Sharma, in charge of Kotwali police station.
Police are currently investigating the allegations and working to apprehend the suspects.
