Air India pilot suicide: Kin allege foul play, say Aditya Pandit made her pay bills; custody extended
Tuli’s family alleges foul play, as she sounded happy 15 minutes before her death.

MUMBAI: Delhi-resident Aditya Pandit (27), arrested for allegedly abetting suicide of 25-year-old Air India pilot Srishti Tuli, was remanded to police custody till Monday after he completed four days custody on Friday.
Pandit was arrested by the Powai police on Nov 26, after they suspected something amiss as he entered the house without calling the police and had called a locksmith to open the door, only to find Tuli hanging from the ceiling. Tuli’s family members, however, have alleged some kind of foul play as they claimed Tuli called her mother 15 minutes before her taking the extreme step and sounded happy. “So what went wrong after 15 minutes is something that the police have to find out by questioning. She took the decision to end her life after Pandit left her home post midnight,” deceased’s uncle Vivekkumar Tuli (57) told TOI from Gorakhpur.
Powai police got Pandit’s custody extension from the Andheri court on Friday on the grounds that they are yet to extract details from Tuli’s mobile for which they got her mobile’s password only yesterday. Police also said that they are waiting to retrieve the contents of WhatsApp chats between Pandit and Tuli before she ended her life and which he deleted from his mobile. “We have seized Pandit’s mobile and also Tuli’s as some of the chats they had between themselves have been deleted,” said a Powai police officer.
Meanwhile, Pandit’s lawyer Ambuj Shukla said he has been falsely implicated in the case. “He rushed back midway from Delhi after driving almost two-and-a-half hours from Mumbai to save the deceased. He made at least 90 calls to Tuli while driving back, soon after she disconnected the video call warning that she is ending her life. She did not respond to any of his calls. If his intention was wrong, why would he return and take her to Seven Hills Hospital in Marol, where she was pronounced deceased,” said Shukla.
Meanwhile, Tuli’s uncle Vivekkumar said that it is hard to believe his niece was under depression. “We saw the CCTV footage that showed Srishti cheerfully talking with her mother at 12.30am when she arrived from her work and was entering the building on Nov 25. Pandit, who was waiting for her, accompanied her to the flat before he left. We also learnt from bank statement that Pandit made my niece transfer Rs 15,000 last month and Rs 50,000 this month. He also made her to pay for his shopping and food bills through QR Code that he sent her,” said Vivekkumar.
