NEW DELHI: People flying out of India from Delhi on Air India flights will now need to reach the airport earlier than before.
AI will close check-in counters at IGIA for international departures 75 minutes before flight scheduled departure time, instead of 60 minutes till now.
The change has been made to factor in extra time for passengers to clear security and immigration, which often see huge rush, especially at peak departure times.Since congestion is faced by all airlines, it remains to be seen if some other players also follow suit.
“For international departures from Delhi, the check-in counter will now close 75 minutes prior to your scheduled departure time. This adjustment from the previous 60-minute closure ensures a seamless and comfortable travel experience for all, allowing ample time for check-in procedures and security clearance even during busy periods. We appreciate your cooperation in arriving at the airport well in advance of this new closure time,” AI posted on X on Saturday.
While many frequent flyers did not like the change, they all hoped the move helps improve AI’s on-time performance. “Their flights are frequently delayed. I have taken multiple flights to the west in the last one year and almost all of them were delayed by at least 2-3 hours. Arriving late means missing connections. AI needs to improve its punctuality,” said a frequent flyer who did not want to be named.
