Ajit Pawar missed becoming CM due to party switch: NCP Chief Patil | Kolhapur News – Times of India

Had Ajit Pawar not left, he would have been Maharashtra CM, says Jayant Patil
Jayant Patil stated Ajit Pawar could have been Maharashtra’s CM if he stayed with Maha Vikas Aghadi. He is confident MVA will win the next elections.

KOLHAPUR: Had Ajit Pawar not left Maha Vikas Aghadi in favour of Mahayuti, he would have become the next CM of Maharashtra, NCP (SCP) state chief Jayant Patil said on Monday, while iterating that MVA would win the forthcoming assembly elections and form govt in the state.
The NCP (SCP) politician, while taking a dig at deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar, said despite him being an MLA since 1990, newcomers like Eknath Shinde and Devendra Fadnavis trumped him to become the CM.
“If he [Ajit Pawar] had not left the party, he would have become the CM. The situation is good for MVA now. The next CM will be from Maha Vikas Aghadi only,” Patil said, while speaking to reporters in Pandharpur.
Asked if the MLAs who sided with Ajit Pawar were returning to Sharad Pawar’s fold, Patil said, “They are in touch with us. But, I will not be in the misbelief that they are coming back. They have the sword of investigation agencies hanging over their heads. Some of them are also happy where they are. I don’t think they are coming back.”
Recently, senior NCP politician Hasan Mushrif had said at a function in Kagal that the only thing left for govt was to go and cook food at the homes of the voters, which they were even ready to do but on one condition that Mahayuti was voted back to power.
Reacting to the Mushrif’s comment, the NCP (SCP) politician said Mahayuti politicians were confident that they were not winning the election and going to any extent to woo the voters.
“Tomorrow, they will go to the extent that they are ready to give bath to the voters. They are facing defeat in the upcoming elections, in spite of whatever promises they make,” Patil said.
On Friday, Patil had said schemes started by state govt, including Ladki Bahin, would not be discontinued if MVA came to power but would be restructured to provide better benefits to the people.
