The woman, 30, had an argument with the man, 32, before she hurled acid at him. He sustained burns to 25% of his body, including his face, and was found at a private hospital after a citywide search. She also suffered minor injuries from the acid and was taken to a hospital.
ASP Mayank Pathak said, “Initial investigations suggest the two individuals knew each other and were in a relationship earlier. We are now reviewing CCTV footage from the restaurant, and a case will be registered once a formal complaint is lodged.”
Police sources said the “divorced woman had arranged to meet her former beau” at the restaurant. Restaurant owner Deepak Garg, who witnessed the incident, said, “I asked the woman why she did this, and she told me that the man had been blackmailing her for years.” Garg said she called the police herself immediately after the attack. A restaurant employee, Danish Alam, also suffered minor burns from the acid splashes.
