“CFMC will serve as an example of ‘cooperative federalism’ in law enforcement,” the home ministry shared in a statement on Monday. The centre’s mission will be to save citizens’ money from being lost to financial frauds.
Shah, who will be addressing the first foundation day celebration of the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C) on Tuesday, will also dedicate the Samanvaya platform, a joint cybercrime investigation facilitation system, to the nation. CFMC will act as a one-stop portal for data repository of cybercrime, data sharing, crime mapping, data analytics and cooperation/coordination among the country’s law enforcement agencies (LEAs).
Another key initiative that will be inaugurated by the home minister on I4C foundation day is the ‘cyber commandos program’. The program envisages creation of special wing of trained cyber commandos in states and Union territories as well as in Central police organisations. It will help to counter threats to the country’s cyber security landscape, with the cyber commandos assisting the state/UT LEAs and Central agencies in securing the digital space.
Last on the cards is inauguration of a suspect registry of various identifiers based on the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP), in collaboration with banks and financial intermediaries, for strengthening the fraud risk management capabilities of financial ecosystem.
“These initiatives, under the guidance of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, will prove to be an important milestone in achieving Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a ‘cyber secure Bharat’,” saind an MhA spokesperson.
I4C was established on October 5, 2018, within the Cyber and Information Security Division (CIS Division) of the Ministry of Home Affairs. Its primary objective is to establish national-level coordination to address all issues related to cybercrime across the country.
Among those slated to attend the I4C foundation day event on Tuesday are junior home ministers Bandi Sanjay Kumar; Union home secretary; Director IB; state chief secretaries and DGPs; and senior functionaries of various banks, financial intermediaries, fintech and media; and cyber commandos.
