Angered by her affair, man pushes cousin off 200 feet cliff in Maharashtra | Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar News – Times of India

CHHATRAPATI SAMBHAJINAGAR: A 25-year-old man, upset with his 17-year-old cousin’s affair, allegedly killed her by pushing her off a 200ft cliff in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar on Monday afternoon.
Police commissioner Pravin Pawar said the investigation into the murder – which took place within the limits of the MIDC Waluj police station – will be monitored by a senior officer to ensure all facts are brought on record and a foolproof chargesheet is filed.
Inspector Krishna Shinde, of the MIDC Waluj police station, said, “Prima facie, it is a case of honour killing. We have arrested the accused and the investigation is on.”
A couple of days ago, the girl, a resident of Shahagad in Jalna’s Ambad taluka, left her home because of tension with her family over her romantic relationship with a youth and lodged a complaint with the Shahagad police. In an attempt to resolve the conflict, her parents then sent her to her uncle’s house in Valadgaon in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
On Monday, the girl’s cousin persuaded her to accompany him on a bike ride, claiming that he wanted to talk to her. He allegedly took her to the remote Khavdya hill.
Once there, he led her to the edge of the cliff and, without warning, allegedly pushed her. The girl fell and died on impact. People nearby heard the girl’s scream as she fell and alerted the police. Inspector Shinde and his team reached the spot and sent the girl’s body for postmortem to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). Police also detained her cousin and registered a case against him under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Investigation has revealed that the teen’s affair with a youth had angered her entire family. The accused allegedly planned the murder to restore the family’s “honour”.
