Anil Mehta switched off mobile phone after making final phone call to daughters Malaika and Amrita Arora: report – Times of India

In a tragic turn of events, Malaika Arora lost her father Anil Mehta to suicide on Wednesday, September 11. While initially, there were reports that it might have been an accident, the post-mortem confirmed that he in fact, died of multiple injuries after jumping off the sixth floor. According to reports, no suicide note was recovered to ascertain the reason behind this step.

According to reports, Anil, who was in his 60s, made one final phone call to his daughters Malaika and Amrita saying that he is ‘sick and tired.’ He then, reportedly switched off his mobile phone before taking the extreme step.

The Mumbai Police have since recorded the statements of Malaika Arora, her sister Amrita Arora, and their mother Joyce. According to ANI, the police are also planning to record the statement of Mehta’s doctor, along with other family members who were close to him.
Earlier on Wednesday, DCP Mumbai Police, Raj Tilak Roshan, informed the media that the body of the deceased had been sent for a postmortem. He added that the teams of police and forensics are carrying out the investigation.
“Body of one Anil Mehta (62) was found. He resided on the 6th floor. We are carrying out further investigation and our team is here. We are investigating all angles in detail. Our teams are here; forensic teams are here as well. Body is being taken for postmortem. We are investigating everything in detail. Prima facie, it seems to be suicide; we are conducting further investigation,” Roshan said.
The last rites of Anil were held Thursday morning in a private ceremony that was attended by only a few close friends and family.
Malaika took to her Instagram account on Wednesday and posted an emotional statement, asking for privacy from the media during this difficult time.

“We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our dear father, Anil Mehta. He was a gentle soul, a devoted grandfather, a loving husband, and our best friend. Our family is in deep shock by this loss, and we kindly request privacy from the media and well-wishers during this difficult time,” her statement read.
