Another sabotage attempt in Kanpur: LPG cylinder placed on rail track, 6th similar incident in a month
An empty LPG gas cylinder was found on a rail track at Prempur railway station in Kanpur district. This incident is part of ongoing sabotage attempts targeting railway operations in Uttar Pradesh.

LUCKNOW: Within a fortnight, once again miscreants have allegedly placed an LPG gas cylinder on a rail track in Kanpur district.
The 5-litre empty gas cylinder was found on a loopline at Prempur railway station, which is an intermediate station between Kanpur Central and Fatehpur in the North Central Railway (NCR) zone.

According to a statement issued by NCR, “At around 5:50 am, loco-pilots Dev Anand Gupta and C B Singh of the Jorhat bound freight train, found an empty cylinder kept on the rail track ahead of the signal. The crew applied emergency brakes to avoid an untoward incident.”
After examining, the empty cylinder was removed from the track by security forces.
“The cylinder was kept just 30 meters away from the signal. Such cylinders are often used by students living in hostels or labour working at construction sites. Both civil police and GRP are investigating the probe,” said SHO Om Narayan Singh of Kanpur Central GRP.
Earlier on September 8 night, an attempt was made to derail and blast the Bhiwani-bound Kalindi Express (14117) in Kanpur Nagar district.

The loco-engine of the train had hit an LPG filled gas cylinder placed on the rail track between Barrajpur and Utripura on the Kanpur-Kasganj route. A Molotov cocktail too was found next to the rail track.
Till date, Kanpur police have failed to make any breakthrough in the case.
Since August, at least six alleged attempts have been made in Uttar Pradesh to sabotage railway operations.
In the wee hours of September 16, Delhi bound Swatantrata Senani Express’s (12561) loco-engine suffered failure, after it had hit a wooden log lying on rail track between Ghazipur Ghat and Ghazipur City railway station. The log was dragged for nearly half-a-km, before the express came to a halt. The train was cruising at 100kmph, and even after emergency brakes, it couldn’t avoid the collision.
On September 10, three men had kept gravel between Ghazipur Ghat and Ghazipur City railway station track, and pelted stones on Prayagraj-Ballia passengers. They were arrested the next day.
In a similarly, nefarious act of sabotage, two men including the son of a farmers’ leader in Farrukhabad were arrested by police for attempting to derail the Kasganj-Farrukhabad passenger train (05389), by placing a wooden log on the Kanpur-Kasganj route between Bhatasa and Shamshabad railway stations on Aug 24.
On August 17 early morning, a 22 coach Sabarmati Express, originating from Varanasi and heading Ahmedabad, had derailed near Kanpur after the locomotive collided with a meter long old rusty rail chunk.
