Apple Intelligence comes with iOS 18.1: Eligible iPhones, how to download and more – Times of India

Apple has released iOS 18.1 software update, bringing the much-awaited Apple Intelligence to iPhone users. Powered by artificial intelligence (AI), Apple Intelligence is the personal intelligence system built into iOS18. The combines the power of generative models with an understanding of your personal context to deliver intelligence that is useful and relevant. Apple Intelligence aims to enhance productivity and simplify tasks using on-device processing for privacy. It brings an AI-powered Photos app, a new version of iPhone voice assistant Siri among other features.

Apple Intelligence availability

Apple says that Apple Intelligence will initially be available in most regions around the world, with Siri and device language set to US English. Since support for Apple Intelligence is limited to US English initially, iPhone users in India will have to change their phone’s language to US English if it is set to US India. To do so, head to Settings>Language>select English US.
Once done, now go to Settings>Apple Intelligence and Siri. Here, tap on the Join the Apple Intelligence Waitlist. You will be notified as soon as Apple Intelligence is ready for your device.

Apple Intelligence new features

New tools to enhance writing: Apple Intelligence introduces new systemwide Writing Tools that help users refine their text across various apps. Features like Rewrite offer alternative versions and tone adjustments, while Proofread provides grammar and style suggestions. Users can also summarise selected text into different formats like paragraphs, bullet points, and tables.
More natural conversations with Siri: Apple has introduced a new version of iPhone voice assistant Siri which has now been redesigned with a new look and enhanced capabilities. It now features a glowing light indicator, supports text input, and offers smoother transitions between voice and text. With improved language understanding and product knowledge, Siri can better assist users with their tasks and answer questions about Apple devices.
AI-powered Photos app: iPhone’s Photos app will now feature intelligent search capabilities, allowing users to find specific photos and videos using natural language descriptions. It even understands actions and objects within videos, enabling precise navigation to relevant segments. Smart completion suggestions further enhance the search experience, making it easier to find the memories you’re looking for.
The new Photos app introduces two new AI-powered features: Clean Up, which allows users to remove unwanted objects or people from photos, and Memories, which automatically creates movies based on user descriptions, complete with storylines and chapters.
New productivity features: iOS 18.1 introduces new features to help users prioritize tasks and stay focused. Priority Messages in the Mail highlight urgent emails, while summaries and Smart Reply streamline communication. Notification summaries and a new Focus mode minimise distractions. The Notes and Phone apps now offer audio recording, transcription, and summarisation for efficient note-taking and call review.
