KOLKATA: One person was arrested, an FIR was lodged and security stepped up at junior doctors‘ protest zone in Sector V, after Trinamool‘s ex-Rajya Sabha MP Kunal Ghosh on Friday released an audio conversation in which two persons are heard planning an attack on protesting doctors and blame it on Trinamool.
“We have started a suo motu case and arrested one. We will share more details in sometime,” said a senior officer of Bidhannagar City Police.Sources said the man, Sanjib Das (37) alias Bublai, was arrested from Haltu Garden Road in Kasba but didn’t share BNS sections under which he was arrested.
By Friday night, CCTVs were installed at 12 more locations at the protest site and number of cops was increased from 250 to close to 500 depending on the availability of the force.
Ghosh claimed some opposition workers had conspired to attack the doctors to tarnish reputation of the Mamata Banerjee-led state. He played an audio clip lasting two minutes and 51 seconds in which two men are heard discussing plans to attack doctors at Sector V while a team had gone to Nabanna to meet the CM on Thursday evening.
In the conversation, the first person tells the other man that he has got instruction from “Saheb” to attack protest venue and the second man asks him to do it. The first man is heard saying that even though he has been doing such job for years, his conscience was not allowing him this time as they were doctors. The other man is heard trying to make him understand that he has been asked not to finish them but only attack them.
The first man said he had asked one “Bappada” if it was right. But the second man convinces him to make the attack while a team of doctors were at Nabanna and would be on their way to Salt Lake. The first man said “Bappada” has told him that if they can orchestrate the attack and blame it on TMC, it can stir up more trouble. Police said they have arrested the first man and are looking for the other.
Ghosh said the party has reliable information suggesting that some Left and ultra-Left parties were behind this. He alleged that Left and BJP have joined forces to instigate large-scale disturbances at the site that can be exploited to blame TMC.
CPM functionary Sujan Chakraborty said; “Why did Ghosh release the audio instead of Lalbazar or Nabanna?” BJP’s Samik Bhatacharya said it was just another tactic by TMC to dent doctors’ movement.
