Bangladesh denies its forces shot minor girl, blames BSF – Times of India

DHAKA: Bangladesh has lodged a formal protest with the Indian government over the killing of a 13-year-old Bangladeshi girl of Juri upazila, Moulvibazar district, who they alleged was shot and killed by the Border Security Force on Sept 1, 2024.
The BSF had said on Tuesday they had discovered on Monday the girl’s body near the zero point of the India-Bangladesh border in Kailashahar, Unokoti district, Tripura, and that her age had been 16 years.
A Tripura home department source had said the girl and her parents “had been facing problems in Bangladesh since the regime change” and that in the last three weeks “they had attempted to cross over to Tripura thrice but failed”. BSF reports had indicated that she was shot by the BGB while trying to cross the border with her parents, Rebati Das and Rani Das. “When they were attempting to cross the border near Pillar No. 57 taking advantage of the absence of BSF at night, the BGB opened fire,” the source had added.
In the protest note sent to the Indian high commission in Dhaka on Thursday, Bangladesh strongly protested and condemned “such ruthless acts” and expressed deep concern over the incidents.
