BENGALURU : A 29-year-old homemaker allegedly strangled her two daughters to death and subsequently took her own life at their north Bengaluru house Sunday afternoon. Her husband returned home later in the evening and on seeing their bodies, he hanged himself.
The deceased are Avinash, a cabbie, his wife Mamatha, daughters Anaya, 2, and Adhira, 4. The couple from Kalaburagi district had been residing in Bengaluru for the last six years.
Police suspect a marital dispute might have driven the woman to take the extreme step, while Avinash, overwhelmed by the loss of his loved ones, chose to end his life.
The incident at Yeddyurappa Nagar of Singanayakanahalli near Yelahanka came to light at 9.30am Monday when Avinash’s younger brother Udhay Kumar arrived at the residence. He found Avinash’s body hanging from the ceiling.
The bodies of the others were on the bed. Udhay, physical education trainer at a school, also lived with his brother’s family. He had gone to Kalaburagi and returned only Monday.
Police registered a case of murder against Mamatha and an unnatural death case over her and Avinash’s deaths. Bengaluru district superintendent of police CK Baba said: “The exact cause of the children’s death will be known after getting the postmortem report. Avinash was at work from morning till night.
A detailed investigation will be conducted.”
Dattu Rathore, cousin of Avinash, claimed there was no dispute in their marital life.
“Eight days ago, Avinash called my uncle and sought help to pay his credit card bill. We suspect someone put pressure on him to pay the bill,” he added.
