Bengaluru techie suicide: Atul Subhash's mother moves SC for grandson's custody

NEW DELHI: Days after the arrest of Atul Subhash’s mother-in-law and estranged wife Nikita Singhania, the Bengaluru techie’s mother has filed a habeas corpus petition in the Supreme Court seeking custody of her four-year-old grandson.
Following this, the top court has issued a notice to Haryana, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh’s governments seeking a response from them. According to reports, the matter will now be heard on January 7, 2025.
In her petition, Anju Modi, Atul’s mother, has claimed that neither Nikita nor her family members have provided information about the child’s location since their arrest. The mother also raised concerns for her grandson’s safety.
The legal action comes in the wake of Atul’s tragic suicide on December 9.
Atul, 34, left behind a detailed 24-page suicide note and an 80-minute-long video in which he accused his wife and her family of making false allegations against him and demanding significant sums of money for legal settlements.
Atul’s family has expressed their desire to raise their grandson as a way to keep their son’s memory alive. They have vowed not to perform his last rites until justice is served.
