Harbhajan Singh, a former Indian spinner and member of the 2007 and 2011 World Cup-winning teams, recently posted a cryptic message on X (formerly Twitter) following a surprising revelation about his relationship with MS Dhoni.
Harbhajan’s post read, “Strangers can become best friends just as easy as best friends can become strangers….”.
This post followed an earlier statement where Harbhajan disclosed he no longer communicates with Dhoni.

“No, I don’t speak to Dhoni,” Harbhajan stated in an interview with News18. He further clarified his stance. “I don’t have anything against him. If he has something to say, he can tell me. But if he did, he would have told me by now.”
Harbhajan, a distinguished bowler with 417 Test wickets, refrained from delving into the specifics of his strained relationship with Dhoni. However, he did mention that his interactions with the former CSK captain were limited to on-field conversations during his IPL tenure.
“When I was playing at CSK, that’s when we spoke; but otherwise, we haven’t spoken. It’s been 10 years and more. I have no reason; perhaps he does. I don’t know what the reasons are. When we were playing in the IPL at CSK, that’s when we used to talk, and that too was restricted to the ground. After that, he did not come to my room, nor did I go to his,” Harbhajan explained.
Harbhajan’s impressive cricketing career includes 236 ODIs with 269 wickets and 25 T20Is with 25 wickets.
The former off-spinner also hinted that Dhoni doesn’t respond to his calls.
“I only ring up those who pick up my calls. I don’t have the time otherwise,” Harbhajan, now a cricket commentator, remarked.
He further elaborated on his communication style.
“I stay in touch with the ones I am friends with. A relationship is always about give and take. If I respect you, I hope you will respect me back. Or you respond to me. But if I call you once or twice but don’t get a response, I will probably only meet you as much as I need to.”
Harbhajan’s candid remarks about only contacting those who reciprocate his communication attempts and his emphasis on mutual respect in relationships suggest a principled approach to personal interactions.
