PATNA: A bridge connecting Pirpainty Dominia Chowk and Babupur via Bakharpur road in Pirpainty block, Bihar, collapsed early on Friday, causing significant disruptions to road traffic.
In response to this incident, the district administration has restricted two-wheeler riders and pedestrians from crossing any bridges due to rising floodwaters. Bhagalpur District Magistrate Nawal Kishor Choudhary has ordered barricades on both sides of the collapsed road to ensure safety.
This collapse follows a troubling trend, with over a dozen bridges and causeways failing in several Bihar districts recently.
Incidents have been reported in Siwan, Saran, Madhubani, Araria, East Champaran, and Kishanganj districts over the past two months.
A few weeks ago, a portion of a bailey bridge over the Barnar river in Jamui district tilted to one side. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Chief minister Nitish Kumar had directed officials to conduct a survey of all old bridges in the state to identify those needing urgent repair.
