BJP complains to EC over Rahul Gandhi's 'Constitution is in danger' comment

NEW DELHI: Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday lodged a complaint with the Election Commission of India against Rahul Gandhi’s claim that the saffron party wanted to “destroy the Constitution.” The party has also asked for an FIR to be lodged against the leader of opposition under Section 353 of BNS.
“A delegation of the BJP met the Chief Election Commissioner today…We told him that on 6th November, LoP Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi tried to lie once again for Maharashtra elections he attempted to pit states against each other, he waved the Constitution and lied again that the BJP is about to destroy the Constitution,” Union minister and BJP leader Arjun Ram Meghwal said.
“This is false. We said that this should be stopped. We also told the Commission that Rahul Gandhi is habitual in doing this and is not deterring from this despite warnings and notices…We said that an FIR be lodged against Rahul Gandhi under sec 353 of BNS,” he added.
This came after an FIR was lodged against the Jharkhand unit of BJP for allegedly sharing false and misleading videos on social media, alleging violation of the Model Code of Conduct and other legal provisions.
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh had lodged a complaint with the EC, alleging that the videos contained baseless accusations intended to sway voters against opposition parties in the ongoing Jharkhand assembly elections.
