Brazil's Lula undergoes surgery for 'intracranial hemorrhage'; stable in ICU

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is recovering in intensive care after undergoing surgery to treat a brain hemorrhage caused by a recent fall, the Syrian-Lebanese Hospital in Sao Paulo said on Tuesday.
“The operation went without complications” on Monday night, and Lula was “doing well, under monitoring” the hospital said through a statement on the president’s Instagram.
The 79-year-old left-wing president underwent the procedure after experiencing headaches, which doctors believe resulted from a domestic fall in October.
The hospital said that Lula, who traveled over 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) from Brasília to São Paulo for treatment, is “stable and under observation in an ICU bed” following the successful drainage of the bleeding.
The Brazilian presidency has not released any statement regarding the situation.
Following the accident, which left a visible wound near his neck, Lula had to cancel his attendance at a BRICS summit in Russia, as announced by his office.
The Sirio-Libanes hospital also said that they will hold a press briefing later today to provide details about the surgical procedure.
