NEW DELHI: A cleanliness drive under the ‘Special Campaign 4.0‘ fetched the government Rs 2,364 cr after selling items it no longer needed since 2021. The Centre earned over Rs 650 crore as part of a cleanliness drive in government offices that ran in October.
Taking to X, Union minister Dr Jitendra Singh wrote, “Special Campaign 4.0, India’s largest campaign of its kind, achieves substantial outcomes including Rs 2,364 Cr (since 2021) for State exchequer simply by disposing off scrap.”
Reacting to the news, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the govt for a commendable effort and said, “By focussing on efficient management and proactive action, this effort has attained great results. It shows how collective efforts can lead to sustainable results, promoting both cleanliness and economic prudence.”
This is not the first time the government has undertaken such a campaign. Similar efforts between 2021 and 2024 resulted in over Rs 2,364 crore being raised from the sale of surplus items.
Singh highlighted the campaign’s growing success, noting that over 5.97 lakh sites were included in 2024, compared to 2.59 lakh sites in 2023.
The campaign also tackled backlogs in paperwork across government offices. Singh praised the progress made, with many departments clearing 90-100% of their targets. He encouraged officials to maintain this momentum.
The evaluation of Special Campaign 4.0 begins on November 14th, focusing on the most effective methods for maintaining a clutter-free and efficient workspace in government offices.
