BENGALURU: The union labour ministry has directed the Karnataka labour commissioner to take appropriate action following IT employees’ union National Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) complaint against Infosys for deferring the onboarding of over 2,000 campus hires for over two years. In the letter reviewed by TOI, the ministry said, “Since the appropriate govt for action under respective labour law in this matter is the state govt, you are requested to look into the matter and take suitable action under intimation to the applicant and this office.” NITES filed the complaint in August of this year.
In recent developments, Infosys has begun the process of onboarding freshers, with approximately 1,000 new employees set to join the company in October. The offer letter reviewed by TOI showed that if these new recruits leave before completing their probation period, they will be required to pay Infosys Rs 1 lakh as ‘damages’.
