'Chaddi-baniyan' gang strikes shops in Nashik, still to be traced
The gang, consisting of eight members, wears masks.

NASHIK: The Malegaon police are at their wits’ end to identify and nab a gang of masked burglars who have allegedly attempted at least seven burglaries over a one-and-a-half weeks in different areas of the textile town, robbing three establishments.
The gang, consisting of eight members, wears masks. They have targeted shops and stolen goods and cash totalling Rs 4 lakh in the three incidents that took place in at the Manmad Chowk .
Assistant superintendent of the Malegaon Camp sub-division, Suraj Gunjal, said, “The gang, which locals have named ‘chaddi-baniyan,’ have been spotted wearing T-shirts, pants or shorts. Despite increased night patrols, we have not yet managed to track them down.”
“The police have set up checkpoints around the clock and deployed officers under cover to monitor suspicious activity”, said another senior officer.
The gang specifically targets shops in the less populated areas.
The police suspect that the gang might be from neighboring districts like Jalgaon since similar cases have taken place there as well. They are using technical tools to track the gang’s movements and are hopeful of a breakthrough soon.
