ACP (Taj security), Syed Areeb Ahmed, said on Thursday, “A cop in Haryana Police uniform along with two men, perhaps policemen in civil clothes, and an undertrial in handcuffs possibly brought for court appearance had approached the Taj Mahal gate around 3pm on Tuesday. We don’t allow weapons inside the Taj Mahal complex. So, we stopped them when they tried to gain entry. They first tried to argue but then left. We’ll share details of the case with Haryana Police and recommend a departmental action.”
A local officer, investigating the matter, said, “They (Haryana cops) perhaps had come to see the Taj and wanted to take the ‘man in chains’ with them. They bought tickets and reached the eastern gate. ASI and CISF men refused to let the ‘prisoner’ inside with handcuffs. The security had suggested that they may go in, leaving the handcuffed man outside… Agra police are now scanning CCTV footage to identify the two cops (civil clothes) and get details of their vehicle with a Himachal registration number.” Locals captured the incident on video, purportedly showing the handcuffed man – in a black t-shirt – and a cop escorting him. The accompanying cops raised some objections when locals started filming, they said.
