Chicken-or-egg riddle leads to murder in Indonesia; suspect arrested – Times of India

A man in Indonesia has been arrested for allegedly stabbing his friend to death after an argument over the riddle, “which came first, the chicken or the egg?”
The incident occurred on July 24, when suspect identified as DR stabbed Kadir Markus (47) 15 times in Southeast Sulawesi province’s Muna Regency. Markus had come to repay a debt, but an argument ensued over the riddle, leading to the fatal confrontation, reported British online newspaper The Independent.
According to the investigating officer La Ode Arsangka, DR invited Markus for a drink and began posing a series of riddles, which sparked the dispute.Markus attempted to leave when the argument escalated, but DR grabbed a dagger and chased him on his bike and then on foot before attacking him multiple times.
“The suspect has been charged with murder and faces up to 18 years in prison if convicted,” said Tongkuno police chief Iptu Abdul Hasan, as quoted by the Strait Times.
The weapon used in the crime was a badik, a traditional dagger of southern Sulawesi’s coastal tribes like the Bugis and the Makassarese.
The victim was laid to rest on July 26 according to British tabloid The Sun.
